The government has directed the provinces to take stringent measures to ensure that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices do not surge during the coming winter season, it is learnt.

The direction came at a meeting on Tuesday here that was attended by officials of Ministry of Petroleum, provincial governments, LPG importers, producers, and distributors.

Sources said that the meeting directed the provinces that they should have an effective monitoring system to check LPG prices during winter and should take strict action if anyone takes undue advantage of seasonal change.

The meeting noted concern over reports that LPG prices were on the rise in some parts of the country, with the setting in of cold weather.

The producers were asked to ensure maximum LPG production to ensure uninterrupted supply in all parts of the country during winter.
